Perinatal Services

Our perinatal service focuses on services for parents from about the 12th week of pregnancy up to 6 months after childbirth (or longer if needed).  Our dedicated Perinatal Practitioners offer support in the following ways:

Baby Massage is a great way to bond with your new baby.  It also helps your baby with sleep, colic, wind and relaxation. This service can be provided for babies from 6 weeks of age.  There is a small charge for our baby massage service and we deliver sessions according to demand, so please contact us and express your interest in attending a course.

New birth visits are often a good way for you to meet one of our Practitioners and find out about services provided in your Children’s Centre. We are notified by the NHS once your baby has arrived and a member of our team will make contact with you to arrange a convenient time to visit you.  You can always request a visit, just contact us via email or give us a call.

We run weekly drop-in sessions for parents/carers and their children under the age of one.  Some people feel it is too soon to start attending groups with such a small baby but the benefits are endless!  Your baby’s’ brain will be developing at a rapid rate during its first year of life and our staff can help you with tips and ideas on how to support your baby’s development.  We follow a nationally recognised programme called ‘Five to Thrive’ which provides great ideas to support baby brain development.  Also, these sessions provide a time for you to meet other new parents with similar aged children.

This is a locally delivered 5 week antenatal programme covering the following topics:

  • Getting to know my bump
  • Planning and getting ready
  • Responsive feeding and our babies cues
  • Caring for our baby
  • Your health and wellbeing

It is delivered in partnership with NHS midwives and health visitor’s .You are able to book onto a course from about 30 weeks of pregnancy.  Have a look at our booking timetable for information on dates and venues.

Baby Brassieres are a café style breastfeeding support group with a welcoming atmosphere where breastfeeding mums can meet and support each other, have a hot drink and also find help and support with breastfeeding issues. We welcome mums to attend with older siblings and encourage pregnant women to join us and talk about breastfeeding, meet the team and become familiar with the group. We also offer hospital outreach support in the Cygnet wing at Bedford Hospital so please ask a member of staff for further information on the locations and times of Brasseries.

Pop-Ins is a locally run service in partnership with the NHS Health Visiting service. Most Pop-Ins have a stay and play running alongside a Baby Brasserie and the opportunity to self-weigh your baby.  Health Visitors are available for you to ask any questions you may have or receive further information on more specialist support if needed.
